  • Final exam of full time and part time courses
    Applications for final exams of students who followed the full time and part time courses, will be called on Colleges level and exams will be held in Colleges level on the organization, Supervision and manipulation of the Testing and Evaluation pision of the Department and certificates will be issued applicants, who passed the exam. (The students, who got 80% of attendance for classes and with the recommendation of the principal can only be applied for exam).
  • For the students who followed the National Vocational Qualification courses (NVQ)
    The practical exams for the students who followed the National Vocational Qualification courses will be held by the assessors under the supervision and coordination of the Testing and Evaluation pision and the Director/Principal of the Colleges of Technology/Technical Colleges and relevant NVQ certificates will be issued by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission on the results of this exam.
  • Final exam of students who follow the short term courses
    Final exam for the students who followed the short term courses will be held under the supervision of the Director (Testing and Evaluation) and on Technical College level and certificates will be issued for the qualified students by the Testing and Evaluation pision of the Department.
  • Exams for staff of other organizations
    Exams will be held for the staff of the other organizations by the supervision of Director (Testing and Evaluation) of this Department and certificates will be issued by the above pision.

A career Guidance centre is established in each and every Colleges of Technology/Technical Colleges, under a Carrier Guidance Officer. Awareness programmes will be implemented by these centres for youth, who wish to direct training/employment, school students, teachers, students who complete school education, parents, elders and officers of other public and self organizations and participation will be given to the exhibition activities of areas, as relevant.

A program will be held to direct the students who completed the full time courses for employment as follows.
  • Obtaining information of students who completed the training in by the Carrier Guidance Centers of Colleges of Technology/Technical Colleges.
  • Thereafter comparing with the vacancies in the information system of Carrier Guidance Center and direct to the employment.
  • When no vacancies in the information system of Colleges of Technology/Technical Colleges, Then students name list will be submitted to the Industrial Liaison and Carrier Guidance pision of the Department and direct to the relevant employment.
  • Direct the students, who completed the course, to the training programs of Foreign Employment Bureau and direct to foreign employment through the registered employment institutions.
  • Direct the particulars of students, after completion of training to Jobs Net.

Entrepreneurship Development Programs will be implemented as follows by the Carrier Guidance Unit for certificate holders who complete the vocational education and youth who wish to commence the self employment and already engaged in self employment.

  • Awareness Programs of Entrepreneurship Development is conducting for all students, studying in Colleges of Technology/Technical Colleges.
  • Thereafter, held the 14 days entrepreneurship training program for students wish to work as a entrepreneur.
  • Assist to obtain required loan for trained entrepreneur.

A guide line for Entrepreneurship Development is published by the Skills Development Project. Further clarifications, can be obtained by the Carrier Guidance Unit of the nearest College of Technology/Technical College.

This means to Recognition of Prior Learning by vocational training or engaging in an employment and issue the National Vocational Qualification Certificates.

Certificates issuing procedure:

  • It should be registered by submitting of an application for obtain NVQ certificates under RPL system for the fields identified by the following Technical Colleges which purview under the Department of Technical Education and Training. The registration fees for this is Rs. 250.00.

    College of Technology – Kurunegala Masoanry
    Technical College – Kegalle Air conditioning and Refregaration
    Technical College – Warakapola Plumbing
    College of Technology – Anuradhapura Welder
    Technical College – Dehiattakandiya Welder and Plumbing

    (another fields and centers will be added in future)

  • Thereafter, it will be examined the witnesses and files for competency and be observed the practical works and be held the practical and theory exam at not sufficient the witness, with the intention of you and the assessor on easy day. The amount for required raw material for practical exam and expenditure for this will be informed to the applicant and this amount should be paid to the Technical College.
    (If the applicant wish to held the rehearsal practical study, by the Technical College, it could be obtained before this test, Specified fees should be paid to the Technical College for this purpose)
  • The results of prior learning assessment will be submitted to the Testing and Evaluation pision of the Department of Technical Education & Training and National Apprentices and Industrial Training Authority(NAITA).
  • Certificates will be issued under the signature of Director (Evaluation) of Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission(TEVC) and National Apprentices and Industrial Training Authority(NAITA).
  • The fully authority of this exam is NAITA. Therefore further clarification call NVQ unit of NAITA.
  • Coordination with Colombo Plan Staff College for Technical Education(CPSC), established under the Colombo Plan and conduct the Instructor Training and conference by it.
  • Coorperation with International recognition institutions.
    Ex : Implimentation of TAFF Australia courses and City & Guild courses.
  • Held the training programs and International level conferences with the IVETA.
  • Taking action to held the International level Technical Education Training conference in locally.
  • Commencement to preparing of Technical Education Journal which can be recognised by the Internationally.
  • Under this, improve quality of Technical Education through the build up direct partnership with chamber of commerce and industry, board of investment and OPA etc…
  • Preparing the Technical Education courses as relavent to industrial needs and it is confirmed that the Technical Education Institutions are necessities for industry needs.
